It started with the purchase of a tractor, but now Life For Children Ministry helps manage corn fields and greenhouses, helping residents grow crops such as tomatoes for food and profit.

The Agriculture Initiative

    Goats and Chickens

    Adding a goat or chickens to the family plot dramatically increases survivability in the event of crop damage due to weather. Goats are mostly used for their milk and are normally given in pairs so families may also benefit from their young. Chickens breed fast and can support a family with eggs and young in as little as five months. Animal offspring can also generate extra funds to help pay school fees and help the family expand their farming activities

    Greenhouses

    Greenhouses have proven their way to help with the sometimes extreme weather patterns to deliver more consistent crops year round. These crops also help in a number of ways. Local workers of the land can sell a portion for good money at the open market. A portion also feeds a school population that sits right next to these gardens. The methods used for farming under these greenhouses can also be taught to other area schools to assist in feeding their populations. And with the plan to build more to increase yields, opportunities to be part of this initiative are welcomed!

    Crop Assistance

    Homesteads depend on their gardening plots to survive. Larger families find that challenge even more so. A tractor was purchased to not only help with family plots but increase their field size to meet production needs. A local posho mill is also utilized to help process family corn yields. Every opportunity is used to help promote proper field management for a generous and healthy harvest.

The Lord will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.
