the agricultural initiative

Various greens planted and thriving!

The tomatoes that started a new way of providing a sustainable food staple

Irrigation lines regularly nourish the ground

It all started with…

the purchase of a farm tractor. The plan was to plow fields for community and family plots and in return receive a share of the crop, which has grown into much greener pastures! Life For Children Ministry now manages their own fields with the construction of greenhouses! And, in a very short time has proven to be the most effective method for local farming. One of the very first crops were tomatoes. The harvest provided in ways that surprised everyone involved. Tomatoes are not the easiest to grow out in the open, susceptible to weather extremes and pests. Under a greenhouse they are protected and irrigated for a bounty harvest! These crops also serve in a number of ways. Local workers of the land can sell a portion for good money at the open market. A portion also feeds a school population that sits right next to these gardens. The methods used to farm under these greenhouses can also be taught to other area schools to assist in feeding their populations. And with the plan to build more to increase yields, opportunities to be part of this initiative are welcomed!
