2006 US Summer
Mission Tour The trip far exceeded
the group's expectations! The 2006 US Summer Mission
Tour to visit the Life For Children Ministry
operations in Kenya Africa ended on a high note.
Each of the tours objectives were met with
success and in most cases results far exceeded
the group's expectations. The four person Team
was comprised of Michael Agwanda and Dick Weber
from Atlanta, active at North Springs UMC; and,
Curtis and Shannon Gibbs, Youth Minister and
Youth Director respectively, from Winder UMC in
Winder, Georgia.
- The groups busy schedule started with two
days of participation for Michael and Dick with
the Atlanta based Mission Society staff and
personnel active in Kenya and their
participation in the first East African Mission
Mobilization Conference, under the direction of
Glory Outreach Assembly, based in Nairobi
- An eight day visit with the Life For
Children Ministry operations team based in
Kisumu
- Numerous home visits and interview with
orphans and guardians in their villages
- Observations on general living conditions
for food & water, clothing, medical care,
and schooling, etc.
- Conferences with the Life For Children
Ministry Board Members and staff members for
broader understanding of the living conditions
observed in the villages
- Site inspections for potential fresh water
well locations in the villages
- A highly active and engaging 3 day Vacation
Bible School for the Ministry's orphans and
related Church youth led by Curtis and Shannon
Gibbs
- The review of administrative and office
procedures for compliance
- The purchase and dedication of the
Ministry's new trail bike
- The production of graphic and video material
for future use.
The Tour
was a success on all accounts.
From this active schedule
of visits, observations, and meetings, a near
term list of needs has been developed for the
Life For Children Ministry. Immediately, we will
work toward finding Partners and solutions to
satisfy these concerns. If you and/or your
organization can see an area where your
involvement could make a difference, please call
either Michael or Dick. Our Immediate
Needs:
- Financial support for medical supplies and
staff, about $300 monthly
- Fresh water wells for community residents.
- Social services training and certification
(capacity building)
- A four-wheel drive vehicle
- A Community Center for orphans and families
- Chigger eradication program for local school
grounds
. . . . . . . . Do you hear
the call to help?
