Dear
Supporter,
Francis Odhiambo Ngoko, 6 years old,
was born on March 11, 2003 to Sylvester Ngoko and Jane
Anyango who died in 2003 and 2004 respectively. He
was under the care of the maternal grandmother Mama
Anastasia, who also cares for four other
children. By the time he was recruited into
LCMs assistance program, Francis
insisted that his hobby was herding and fetching water
from the spring, about 3 km from their home. He is
not enjoying it any more since the neighbors could not
trust him alone with cows when the other children have
gone to school. As he moved along in the
program, his grandmother got to be too old to care for
Francis, so he was moved to Kisumu to live with his
aunt. Unfortunately, his aunt took advantage of his
placement with her, and instead of caring for Francis,
he was subjected to abuse. Almost every evil imaginable
was done this child causing much suffering. This made
Francis to be mentally disturbed, look withdrawn and
lonely most of the time. On realizing this
special need for this dear child of God, Francis was
placed under a new guardian who also lives in Kisumu,
Mr. Joseph Muhomi, a relative of his family.
Francis was taken to a nearby school at Arina, where he
managed to learn and interact with other children of his
age. He was exited to see electricity, bath tubs
for water, etc. It was imperative that Francis make new
friends with other children who would understand and
accept him. In essence, he needed to become a child
again. Thankfully during the
LCMs December 2008 Vacation Bible
School he made a lot of new friends in both
Kisumu and Homabay, and he was excited to interact with
the short-term missionaries from the United
States. This gave him an assurance that JESUS
knows his name, and he need not feel lonely
anymore. His social esteem has really
improved. He is now a very ambitious boy who wants to be
a doctor when he grows up. He also would like to build a
decent house similar to the ones he's seen in Kisumu for
his grandmother. In the future he wants his own
herd of cattle instead of herding cattle for the
neighbors. Francis is one of the cutest
kids, looking like an old man trapped in a little kid's
body. His smile lights up the room, and he has one of
the sweetest spirits. Despite all that he has
experienced, he is hopeful and kind. Even in his young
age, he is a compassionate boy with passion in his eyes.
He is in the final year of nursery school, and he
is a bright boy with a creative imagination. At the last
fellowship, some children were playing with jump ropes,
and he came over to join in. However, soon the lines got
long, so Francis decided to make up his own game. He
began going around the compound collecting straws and
attaching them end-to-end. He put them together in a
triangular shape and used them as a crown. He then began
imagining he was a driver and the straw object was his
wheel. When asked what he was doing, he just turned and
gave a sheepish grin. He was in his own world, having
the time of his life. That is Francis for
you!

| Building Fund Grows
for Church - Community Hall for
Wachara |
The building
fund for the much needed church - community
hall to be built in Wachara is growing. It will be
a multi-use building. A church on Sunday and
Wednesday, a training hall for agriculture
education on Tuesday. HIV/AIDS training will be
held on Thursday. Short-term mission participants will
be able to stay in the building while
they assist the community with Medical Mission Camps and
Vacation Bible Schools.
This structure is vital in the
improvement of this village, these wonderful people,
their children and our orphans.
This community needs your assistance
to complete this worthwhile project.
Visit our website to see building plans and
additional information.
Evergreen First UMC, Evergreen,
AL, has made a challenge for a matching gift of
$20K. God Bless them.
Can your Sunday
School Class or Church make a commitment to the
fund or match their gift?

Supporter,
Happy
Easter. He is Risen. He is
risen Indeed.
In flesh he lived among us for 33 and a
quarter years of service some 2000 years ago, but his
service still continues through those who are still in
flesh. In Jesus's death we live. However,
who will take the good news to the world about his
Resurrection and life eternal? Our partners and
friends like you who believe in this risen savior, have
not only stepped up with their time, resources and
prayers, but their presence have been a great
encouragement to us, even when the economy
seems to say otherwise. We would not be able to
share our faith and hope with the fatherless and the
widows, if it were not for your generous gifts to
us. Thank you and may you be richly blessed as you
give to this ministry.
We love you and we pray
for you. In His
service.
